At the University of Sunderland we are proud to call ourselves a life-changing university. We are justifiably proud of our wonderful graduates, and of the life-changing work of our staff.
Earlier this year we approached four of our graduates and asked them the simple question - who inspired you during your time at Sunderland? All of the following films include the testimony of our graduates, and of the academics who quite literally changed their lives.
At Sunderland we try to underpin academic excellence with a student experience that will ensure that our claim to be a life-changing university is literally true. In 2009 Law was ranked the best in the UK in the National Student Survey, achieving a flawless 100 per cent overall satisfaction rating. At 98 per cent student satisfaction English studies was ranked the second best in the country, while more than 90 per cent of students in sports science and 95 per cent in psychology said they were satisfied with their courses. They were ranked 8th and 3rd in the country respectively. All three came out top in the region.
With a £75m campus development masterplan, which has already seen the creation of the Olympic-standard CitySpace building, and ushered in the UK's biggest student-run radio station, Spark FM, our reputation can only grow.
These films, taken on location at our graduates places of work over the summer, show how, from classroom to office, lab and TV screen, through the day to day work of our academics our students are enriched and changed by their experience at university, and become world changing individuals.
